By the arrival of July you could say that summer is now in total bloom. And what better way to engage in summer than with that very best of summertime entertainments – heading to a different part of the continent you are not acquainted with in order to live in a tent and eat moreover burned or barely cooked food. Better yet, enjoy the wonders of getting your water from a faucet down the street (if you are lucky) instead of from the familiar and easy to use sink in your home. And let us not ignore the miracles of getting up in the middle of the night to grope around for a flashlight so you can hike through the dark unfamiliar to a chilly unlit toilet, occasionally even of the kind that is not a great deal more than a straightforward hole in the ground. Indeed, it is time for that wonder of wonders – camping!
I must admit to taking pleasure in camping, always have. When I was a child we would all look forward to that two week family vacation in the summer. Months before my Dad would pull out the roadmaps of the neighboring states and start to talk with my Mother about the numerous worth of the Oregon Coast opposed to the mountains of Washington. They would undoubtedly send away for a number of catalogues and look at a lot of campgrounds when making the judgement. Naturally, today it is all basically a matter of pulling up a small amount of searches on the the web to see which State Parks are even out there for camping. If you are located in California, as I do, you will have to search slightly further than most except if you made a booking at the very least a year in advance. I know some sites that open up for reservations on the same day every year and are reserved solid inside of a very few hours for the total season.
With that being said, I nonetheless experienced a minor thrill when a buddy of my own and I resolved that this season we seriously were going to camp together. We had spoken of this this past year, but somehow neither of us really got around to taking care of it so we never went. Yet this year, I am inspired to discover us a camping site and a weekend getaway. Our primary choice, Catalina Island’s Two Harbors appeared great at first. The internet site was readily accessible, all the sites had calendars showing us those were reserved and which ones were on hand. But after a couple of emails forwards and backwards, we confirmed that the only possible weekend left obtainable in the summer was the weekend she was going away to a Yoga Retreat. Hence, regretfully, we decided that the trip to Catalina Island would have to hold out for a different time.
I am nevertheless on the watch for another campsite but on this occasion I have no illusions. For me to locate something halfway respectable that isn’t booked will almost certainly mean exiting the state. I am preparing to start looking real soon. I may well even find something today or tomorrow. Just as soon as I get this blog performed, my writing jobs completed and the pages put in to my own sites. Well, perhaps I will get to it tomorrow. But this week – I mean it – I will get that camping trip booked.
